Remembering Walt Ehmer, IE 89


The Georgia Tech Alumni Association mourns the passing of Waffle House Chairman and dedicated Yellow Jacket Walt Ehmer, IE 89. Ehmer, who died Friday, September 6 will be remembered for a lifetime of service, both to his alma mater and the broader community.

Ehmer joined Waffle House in 1992 and quickly rose to senior leadership. He became president of Waffle House in 2002, CEO in 2012, and chairman in 2022. An active alumnus, Ehmer was chair of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association Board of Trustees from 2012 to 2013 and served on numerous organizations, including the Georgia Tech Foundation Board, Georgia Tech Advisory Board, and ISyE Advisory Board.

In 2024, Ehmer received the Joseph Mayo Pettit Distinguished Service Award during the Gold & White Honors Gala.
